What is The Third Ear Language Learning?
The Third Ear is a completely new way of thinking and learning. It helps you speak any new language easily and quickly.
We have discovered that one of the keys to success with language learning is to reconnect with your own language learning intuition. Everyone is born with the ability to learn a language - we all do so at least once with our native language. When you are learning another language, the ability to tap into the natural learning process can make things so much easier.
So how did the Third Ear approach come about? In many ways it was a "lucky accident". Many years ago now I traveled to China and began an incredible journey - a journey into a new language, a new culture, and a new way of thinking. I had learned psychology at university, which gave me hints about how I could make my learning more effective. I had some experience of being immersed in a new language environment from a teenage trip to the tropical island of Tahiti. And, I still retained a childlike fascination with my own learning process.
This combination of factors, and being dumped into the middle of China just as it opened to the outside world, provided a wonderful laboratory for me. I got to try out different things, and quickly discovered what worked and what didn't. I learned about the attitude needed to learn a new language, and how to remember new words. I learned tricks for practicing pronunciation, and tricks for getting others to help you.
All of this experience is organised in an easy-to-access way for you in The Third Ear.

 One of the things I did to avoid getting overwhelmed by how many words I didn't know was to, as The Third Ear suggested, focus on the category words. So instead of trying to remember every single noun, I learned the broad noun for that category, and use that as a base to help build my knowledge of the more specific words as I went.  One of the main points that The Third Ear teaches you is to practice, practice, practice. You have to avoid fear, avoid your fear of being misunderstood by people when you are learning language.  Probably the hardest thing about learning Mandarin is in knowing where to start. Everything is different - the tones, characters, pronunciations.

 This book was just what I needed! My problem had always been "I'm not ready to speak Chinese yet".
Looking back, I'm not sure when I was ever going to be ready. I think I was convincing myself that somehow, magically, I was going to be "qualified" one day. Having read The Third Ear, I can see that was never going to be the case.
